Agnes "Nan" Oney, 96,passed away peacefully in her bed on Oct. 15, 2011 at the Masonic Home Sam Swope center in Louisville.
She was born in Drennen Springs, Ky Nov 6, 1914 to Kirby and Maude Furnish Hance.
She grew up and raised her family in Carroll county, lived and owned a Clover Farm general store in Sanders and eventually moved to Louisville where she retired from Stewarts Dry Goods after 19 years.
Known to most simply as Nan, she loved being outside in her garden with all the creatures great and small. On her 90th birthday she enjoyed seeing surprise well-wishes to her on the board at Churchill Downs.
Nan was also the master of the bright-eyed, loving, and joyful smile which she bestowed generously on everyone she met.
She is preceded by her Father, Mother,brothers John, Vernon, Eugene and Claude Hance; her ex husband Herbert Oney, Son James C. Oney and daughter Elizabeth Oney Faversham. She is survived by her grandson, James C. Oney , Jr.( Kristie Mefford) and great-grandchildren, Hillary and Evan Oney; granddaughter, Tracy Evans (Kelly Clark); devoted friends Glenda Hawkins, Marsha Dunlavy, Ivy and Sadie.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.
A graveside service was held at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Carrollton on Monday, October 18, 2011. Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
