Barbara J. Carlton, a cherished member of the Ghent community, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, in Bedford, Trimble County, Kentucky. She was born on January 27, 1939, in Warsaw, Gallatin County, Kentucky, and has left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege to know her.
Barbara was known for her dedicated career as a secretary, first serving at Ghent Elementary School in the 1970s and later spending an impressive 28 years at the Carroll County HeadStart. Her work was marked by compassion and a commitment to the children and families she served.
A long-time member of Ghent Baptist Church, Barbara found great joy and community in her faith. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed her hobbies, particularly traveling to Florida to bask in the sunshine at the beach, creating beautiful crafts, and tending to her beloved flower garden. Her artistic touch could also be seen in her arrangements of flowers, which brought warmth and cheer to all who encountered them.
Barbara is survived by her beloved daughter, Debbie J. Carlton of Carrollton, KY, and her companion, John Malone of Bedford, KY. She was also a proud aunt to five nieces and two nephews. In her passing, she will be lovingly remembered by her two fur babies, Pinky and Precious, who brought her much joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Allen Welch and Ruth Kinman Welch, her husband, Elmer Carlton, Jr., her sister, Eddie Ernestine Emmick, and a nephew. They, along with many others, await her in eternal rest.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Ghent Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. The church is located at 205 Ferry St, Ghent, KY 41045, Interment will take place in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery in Ghent, KY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Ghent Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
As we celebrate Barbara's legacy, we remember her warmth, creativity, and the love she so freely shared. Her vibrant spirit will continue to inspire all who were touched by her life.
