Ben Smith, Jr.

Ben Wesley Smith, Jr., age 67 of Carrollton, KY entered eternal rest at his home on Saturday morning, September 2, 2017, with his family close by.  He was born in Carrollton, Carroll County, KY to Ben W. Smith, Sr. and Velma Jo Anderson Smith.  Ben served the Carroll County community as Sheriff from 2007-2011 and had operated Smith’s Paint and Body Shop for 38 years prior to being elected sheriff.  He was also very active in raising, training and buying and selling mules as a hobby, as well as being an avid coon hunter and coon dog trainer.  Ben also was a member of Carrollton Lodge #134 F. & A.M. where he also was a Past Master.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Liter Smith, whom he married on September 6, 1969, a daughter, Hollace Beth “Holly” (Clint) Dawson of Carrollton, KY, a son, Todd Wesley Smith of Carrollton, KY, his mother, Velma Jo Anderson Smith of Carrollton, KY, a sister, Nannette Smith Strickland of Western, Ky area, a brother, Joe E. (Connie) Smith of Carrollton, KY, three grandchildren, Cole Breeson Smith of Palm Harbor, FL, Jaxten Todd Smith of Carrollton, KY and Bret Dawson of Bristol, TN.  He was preceded in death by his father, Ben W. Smith, Sr., his granddaughter, Madison Kaylyn “Maddie” Dawson and a sister, Sharlyn Smith.
