Ben Smith| Sr.

Ben W. Smith, Sr., 83, of Carrollton, KY., died on Friday, April 8, 2005 at his residence in Carrollton, KY.

He was born in Henry County, KY., the son of the late John Elkin Smith and Malvina Hunt Smith. He was a retired self-employed Mechanic, Welder and Blacksmith. Ben served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Carrollton Wesleyan Church and a past board member of the church.

Survivors include his wife; Velma Jo Anderson Smith of Carrollton, KY., two daughters; Sharlyn Rose Smith of Middletown, OH., and Nannett Smith Strickland of Lexington, KY., two sons; Ben W. Smith, Jr. of Carrollton, KY., and Joe E. Smith of Carrollton, KY. a sister; Mary Meeks of Carrollton, KY., seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters; Ada Belle Swofford, Melba Briley, Bertha Oaks, Anna Hawkins, Netsy Devore and Flora Garrett, three brothers; Joe, John and Charlie Smith and one grandchild.

Memorial gifts may be given to Hospice of Northern Kentucky in care of the funeral home.
