Charles "Charlie" W. Webster, 79, of Carrollton, KY., passed away peacefully on April 22, 2012 at the University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.
He was born on June 6, 1932 in Covington, KY., the son of the late Jasper Baird Webster and Thelma McGrath "Toddy" Webster. He was a former Pharmacist at the Walter-Reed Hospital during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Webster was elected mayor of Carrollton in 1961 at age 29 and served for 20 years in that position. He served the community in numerous ways including assuming leadership positions with local organizations dealing with industrial development, utilities, tourism, housing, public health, and business development. He was a pharmacist who started Webster's Drug in 1956. He was known as "Good Game Charlie Webster" to local radio audiences listening to his broadcast of high school sports. Charlie is remembered for many exceptional personal qualities, including his warmth, enthusiasm, and sense of humor that endeared him to so many in the community. He was a longtime member and lector at St. John's Catholic Church in Carrollton.
Mr. Webster was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Kathy, and survived by sons Chuck (Nolia),Carrollton, KY, Daniel (Jessica), Bethesda MD. and Jeff (Susan Van Haitsman) Webster,Austin, TX. daughters Sharon Webster (Dave Cavanagh), Burlington, VT, Kim Arney (L.B.), Ghent, Ky,; grandsons Shaman and Ben Webster, Travis (Mindy) and Patrick Arney; granddaughter, Susan Webster; and great granddaughter Annabelle Arney.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, April 27, 2012 at NOON at the St. John Catholic Church in Carrollton with the Rev. Kavungal Davy officiating the service. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home and from 11:00 A.M - Noon on Friday at the St. John Catholic Church. Evening Prayers will be at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in Carrollton.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the St. John Food Pantry or the Carroll County Public Library in care of the funeral home.
The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
