Clarence Lankton

March 7, 1917 — June 17, 2010

Bud Lankton passed away quietly at his home in Carrollton on June 17, 2010. He was 93. Bud, as he was known to all, was born Clarence Addison Lankton to Ira and Helen Lankton of Spencerport, NY, in 1917. He grew up on the family farm in upstate New York, then left the farm to earn his degree from Syracuse University.

After graduation Bud moved to Midland, Michigan to take a job with Dow Chemical Company. In Midland he met his wife- to-be Lucille, known to all as Sid. They married in 1945 and raised a family in a pleasant house that they built together in the country near Midland.

Bud became an early employee of the newly-formed Dow Corning Corporation. He prospered there and worked for Dow Corning for more than 30 years. Beginning in the production plant, he rose to the role of plant manager, specializing in the start-up of new Dow Corning facilities. Bud was the first manager of plants in Elizabethtown and Carrollton, Kentucky, and of a large facility in Barry, Wales. He was retired from Dow Corning in 1977. He and Sid moved back to Carrollton and have lived there ever since.

After retiring to Carrollton, Bud was active volunteer in the community. He worked with Northern Kentucky Transit for 30 years, resigning only a few months before his death. Bud and Sid were named Citizens of the Year in Carrollton in 1980. Bud loved to sing, and was a member of the church choir for much of his life. As the first Manager of the Carrollton Dow Corning Plant, Bud was honored along with the managers who followed him a the plant's 40th anniversary in 2007.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Susan, by his sister Bernice McMann, and by his grandson Tyler Pearson.

He is survived by his wife Sid; his daughter Lee Pearson of Kennewick, Washington; his sons Scott Lankton of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Steve Lankton of Wheeling, Illinois, and Mark Lankton of Boulder, Colorado; two grandchildren: Holly Lankton of Ann Arbor and Sara Watson of Centennial, Colorado; and two great grandchildren: Lily Watson and Brady Watson of Centennial.
