Donald S. Taylor, 87, formerly of Milton, KY., died on Sunday evening, August 28, 2011 at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
He was born on January 27, 1924 in Carroll County, KY., the son of the late Shirley Lewis Taylor and Suzanne Belle Fox Taylor. He was retired as a heavy equipment operator for Ohio Valley Asphalt Paving Company after 47 years of service. He also had worked for Dupont at the Charlestown, IN., Powder Plant during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Taylor was a retired farmer also. He was a former member of Carroll County Board of Education for 16 years, having been instrumental in city and county school consolidation. He was a member of the Milton Methodist Church where he was former sunday school superintendant for 25 years. He was in the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 181 for 55 years.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Harmon Taylor to whom he married on January 14, 1945, two daughters, Ginny Ogden of Maryville, TN., and Janine Bates of Port Royal, KY., two sons, Gary and Larry Taylor both of Milton, KY., nine grandchildren also survive, along with eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Timothy Damon Taylor, (January 2001) and one sister, Ina June Brown.
Funeral Services were on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike McCarter and Rev. Lowell Ogden officiating the service. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.
Pallbearers were Mike Bates, Vincent Bates, John Bates, Jeff Ogden, Darren Taylor & Larry Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rudy Conway and Bobby Young.
In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Gifts may be given to the Milton Methodist Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements were entrusted with the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.
