Edith Smith

Edith Pearl "Miss Edie" Smith, 80, of Carrollton, KY, died on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Swiss Villa Nursing Care & Rehabilitation in Vevay, IN.
"Miss Edie" as she was affectionately known by the hundreds of children she cared for. She was a homemaker, loving mother, and most importantly to her, a child of God. She attended church's of all faith's never stopping in her search for Holiness and the redemption of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was born in Knox County, KY, on June 1, 1934 where she was raised by her loving parents, Virgil & Pauline (Hix) Marcum. She moved to Carrollton in 1967 and had been a resident here since.
Her incredible love and affection for children led her to a lifelong career as a day care provider which she embraced as God's calling.
She raised five children of her own, Steven Grant Smith and David Anthony Smith, both of Carrollton, KY, Bradley Russell (Brooke) Smith of Mayfield, KY, Tobias "Toby" Grant (Amy) Smith of Richmond, KY, a daughter, Trisha Marie (Dan) Wheat of Leitchfield, KY. Also surviving are three brothers, Nathan Marcum of Hamilton, OH, Don Marcumof Oxford, OH and Glen Marcum of Holton, IN, two sisters, Ada King of Oxford, OH, and Trish Marcum of Oxford, OH, sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Jane Hatfield.
Visitation was on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home. Funeral Services were on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. with the Rev. Carroll "Bimp" McAlister officiating the service. Burial was on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, OH.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kentucky Right to Life in "Miss Edie's" remembrance. Memorial Gifts may be mailed to the funeral home at 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, KY 41008.
