Elsie Ray, 86, of Carrollton, KY, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Elsie Ray lived a life to be celebrated for generations. She passed away on February 23, 2022, in her home, surrounded by loved ones who will honor her legacy by living life to the fullest.
Elsie was born on April 25, 1935, to Jeff & Rachel (Spicer) Holland in Typo, KY. She grew up in Austin, IN, and moved to Frankfort after marrying Richard Spencer at the age of 16. Elsie was mother to Wayne, William (Billy), Sandra, Judy & Paula.
Elsie lived a life of service on many levels. Elsie was a waitress, housekeeper, and caregiver for all of her working life. She worked for years at a distillery as well. She was also a former member of the American Legion Post # 41 Ladies Auxiliary in Carrollton, KY. Elsie loved spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed a good competitive game of Aggravation with anyone who dared play against her. She also enjoyed seeing if she could get the right penny slot machine to give her a big win. She had a talent for sewing and you are truly blessed if you have one of her beautiful quilts to call your own. She also enjoyed fishing and picking Polk greens. Elsie was the life of the party with her contagiously fun & adventurous spirit.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff Spicer and Rachel Holland, her son William Spencer, two grandchildren, Richard Spencer and Jeffrey Perkins, as well as her siblings: Kash Gross, Delciney Stinedurf, Roberta B.J. Wells, and Clara Rios.
She is survived by her son, Wayne (Judy) Spencer of Madison, TN; Sandra Spencer, Judy (Charles) Kemper, and Paula (Steve) Hanlon of Carrollton, KY; grandchildren Jill (Debbie) Disney of Roswell, GA, Taylor (Rosemarie) Spencer of Salt Lake City, UT, Rachel (David) Dehnert of Carrollton, KY, Jessica (Daniel) Brown of Franklin, TN, Jennifer Spencer of Madison, TN, Keith Hanlon of Buckner, KY, and Steven Hanlon of Carrollton, KY. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren: Spencer, Treyton, Karson, David, Madyson, Lillian, CJ, Dottie, Drew, Harmony, Phoenix, and Natalie.
