Elwood Thompson

Elwood Yancey "Packy" Thompson, 89, of Wheatley, KY, died on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Providence of Gallatin Health Care in Warsaw, KY.

He was born on April 19, 1925 in Wheatley, Owen County, KY, the son of the late James & Mahala Thompson. He was a retired farmer and a former manager of the Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley, KY. He was a member of the Dallasburg Masonic Lodge #621 F & A.M. in Wheatley, KY.

"Packy", as many people knew him accepted Christ at an early age and was a long time member of the Dallasburg Baptist Church. He held many positions in the church including Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Director. He attended regularly as long as his health permitted him to.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Katherine McNeal Thompson of Wheatley, KY, a daughter, Janet (Dennis) Wheeler of Monticello, KY, a son, Steve (Karen) Thompson of Wheatley, KY, granddaughters, Amy (Scott) Maas of Lexington, KY, and Alana Thompson of Wheatley, KY, a great grandson, Benjamin Maas of Lexington, KY, a sister, Bertha Lee Cummins of Jeffersonville, IN, two sisters-in-law, Mary Dell Thompson of Louisville, KY, and Mary Ruth McNeal of Carrollton, KY, along with many beloved nieces and nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a infant daughter, Patricia Thompson, his brothers, James Robert Thompson and C.C. "Bossy" Thompson.

Funeral Services were on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Dallasburg Baptist Church in Wheatley, KY, with the Rev. Tim Sperduto officiating the service. Visitation was Wednesday at the Church. Burial was in the Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery in Wheatley, KY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Dallasburg Baptist Church "Finishing the Challenge" Project.

Arrangements are entrusted with the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.

Visitation

Visitation 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Wednesday at the Church and 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at the church.

Funeral

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Dallasburg Baptist Church in Wheatley, KY, with the Rev. Tim Sperduto officiating the service.

Interment

Burial will be in the Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery in Wheatley, KY.
