Florence Ann “Flo” Wilson, 85, of Carrollton, Kentucky passed away August 5, 2021 in Shalimar, FL. Flo was born in Covington, Kentucky May 12, 1936 to Robert Florian Grobmeier and Anna Frances Grobmeier. Flo was educated at St. John’s Catholic School in Carrollton, Villa Madonna Academy in Covington, and Carroll County High School (class of 1954).
Flo married James P. “Jim” Wilson on June 30, 1956 and their adventures began. Jim and Flo lived in two countries and seven states. With an intrepid spirit, Flo loved to travel. Thirteen years in Saudi Arabia gave her many opportunities to visit several countries. If you ever met Flo, you know that she never met a stranger. She loved to try new foods and experience new cultures through her continued thirst for all that life had to offer. Flo was a loving and loyal wife, devoted daughter, extraordinary mother and doting Nana.
Flo is survived by her daughter, Jama (Rick) Snyder of Carrollton, KY and her daughter Kendra (Scott) Bates of Shalimar, FL. Flo was proud of her grandchildren, Spencer (Megan) Snyder, Zane, Riley and Quinn Bates. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, her mother and father, and infant sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family has designated causes close to Flo’s heart. Flo was an avid reader. Her love of books was immense and she would often spend hours reading a good (and maybe a little risque’) book. For this reason, donations may be made in her name to the Carroll County Library.
Flo was passionate about PBS, especially KET. Antiques Roadshow was a staple as was Masterpiece Theatre and Downton Abbey. She often commented on KET’s diverse lineup. Please consider donating to PBS KET in her name.
Finally, Flo was proud of where she came from and her community as whole. She was a true Kentuckian and would often reminisce about her family’s history in Carrollton dating back many generations. Donations can be made to the Carroll County Food Bank in her name.
The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
