Gearl Thompson

Gearl Thompson, 87, of Milton, Carroll County, KY, died on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Richwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in La Grange, KY.

He was born on October 12, 1935, in Carroll County, KY, the son of the late Donley Thompson and Ruth Hall Thompson.  Gearl had worked and retired from the former Reliance Electric Company in Madison, IN, after 53 years of service.  He had also farmed all his life.  Gearl was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting.  In his latter years he liked watching UK basketball games and Nascar Races.  He was a member  of the Hopewell Community Church and was baptized in Locust Creek right below his log cabin home about 6 years ago with his family and church friends cheering him on as he jumped in to the creek from the Cliffside in grand fashion.  Gearl then back paddled to the preacher to be properly baptized and was so happy.

Gearl is survived by his three sons, Kevin Thompson of Milton, KY, Mark Thompson of Milton, KY, and Matt Thorne of Fort Wayne, IN, a brother, Donnie Thompson of Columbus, IN, a sister, Evelyn Moore of Columbus, IN, two grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nina Thompson on September 16, 2021, brothers, Jack, Tye, Fred and Dearl, a sister, Melvina Shackleford.

The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
