Harriet Rieper

Harriet Thelma Rieper, 90, born in Wheatley, Kentucky, passed away on November 21, 2011 in her residence in Overland Park, Kansas.

She was born on February 18, 1921 in Wheatley, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Robert Byron Riley and Emma Thelma Baker Riley. She was a retired school teacher for the Owen County School System.

After graduating from New Liberty High School, Mrs. Rieper earned a Primary Education Degree from Western Kentucky University. She taught in Lima, Ohio. She met and married Peter Hans Rieper. They later moved to Detroit, Michigan and raised their three sons and she taught primary education for 30 years. Upon Mr. Rieper's retirement they returned to Wheatley, Kentucky and Mrs. Rieper taught in the Owen County School System and retired in 1979.

She will be missed by her two sons, Byron Rieper, Overland Park, Kansas, Robert Gerald Rieper, Santa Fe, New Mexico and by her two sisters, Evelyn Brock, Wheatley, Kentucky, Emily Riley, Cincinnati, Ohio. Six grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, Peter Hans Rieper, son, Larry Rieper, sister, Aileen Lanter, brothers, H.T. Riley, Sturgeon Baker Riley, and R.V. Riley, and one grandchild.

Memorial Graveside Services will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery in Wheatley, Kentucky.

The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
