Hazel Mae Coombs

Hazel Mae Powell Coombs, 83, of Carrollton, KY., died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Green Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton.She was born on August 3, 1926 in Trimble County, KY., the daughter of the late William Jennings Powell and Erma Sanders Powell. She was a 1944 graduate of Carrollton High School. She married Harold S. "Bud" Coombs on June 29, 1946. She was a member of the Carrollton Christian Church where she was church secretary from 1957 - 1994. She was also the bookkeeper for Coombs Electrical Heating and Air-Conditioning. The honor of Kentucky Colonel was bestowed on her in 1996. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, gardening, and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.She is survived by her son, Scott Thomas Coombs, and daughter-in-law Mary Ellis, of Carrollton, KY., one grandson, Joshua William Coombs of Lexington, KY., and one granddaughter, Sqarah Elizabeth Coombs Vahlsing of Winter Garden, FL.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold "Bud" Coombs, who died on February 8, 2006, and an infant brother.Visitation was at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. The Funeral was at 11:00 A.M., Wedenesday, November 25, 2009 at the Carrollton Christian Church. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Gifts were given to the Carrollton Christian Church in care of the funeral home.The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
