James R. “J.R.” Rabourn, age 84, of Bedford, KY died Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Baptist Health LaGrange. He was born on May 26, 1932 in Turners Station, Henry County, Ky to Marvin B. and Alice Catherine Craigmyle Rabourn. J.R. was a member of the English Baptist Church, a farmer, a former school bus driver for Carroll County School System and a former employee of the Harris Farm Service Crew at Dow Corning Carrollton Site. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed writing poetry and even had some articles published in the Courier Journal newspaper, some books and other publications and loved country music.
His survivors include his wife, Shirley Faye Stangle Rabourn whom he married on January 19, 1957; four daughters, Deborah (John – deceased) Geisler of Turners Station, KY, Rita (Scott) Damrell of Turners Station, KY, Susan (Larry) Beach of Carrollton, KY and Lesa (Greg) Barr of Carrollton, KY; a son, Steve (Sandy) Rabourn of Bedford, KY; a sister, Grace May of Wauseon, OH; a brother, David Rabourn of Turners Station, KY; seventeen grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jewell Kidwell, Thelma Myers and Gladys Schaeffer; a brother, L.G. “Buster” Rabourn; one grandchild, John Wilson Winburn-Castillo.
