James Louis "Jim" Ray, 66, of Carrollton, KY., died on Tuesday evening, April 17, 2007 at his residence in Carrollton, KY., with his family by his side.
He was born on September 6, 1940 in Carrollton, Carroll County, KY., the son of the late Ellis and Pauline (Hudgins) Ray.
Jim as most people knew him was retired from the Dayton-Walther Factory in Carrollton, KY. He served his country in the United States Navy at the U.S. Naval Amphibious Base located in Coronado, CA. Jim received the Good Conduct Medal while serving in the Navy.
Jim was a member of the Kentucky Kruizers Car Club in Carrollton, Jim's pride and joy was a 1938 Chevy Truck that he enjoyed showing at Car Cruise's throughout the area.
Jim was well known in the area for his involvement in various sports serving as a referee and a umpire. He was currently KHSAA Assigning Secretary for the 8th Region of Girls Softball and a KHSAA Official in Basketball.
He was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church and a Kentucky Colonel.
Jim is survived by his Wife; Sandra (Moe) Ray to whom he married on June 30, 1962, a Daughter; Darla Ray and (Daughter-In-Law; Crystal Sorber) of Carrollton, KY., two Son's; Daryl Ray of Carrollton, KY., and Jimmy Ray and (Daughter-In-Law; Jonica) of Carrollton, KY., a Brother; David Ray of Crestwood, KY., three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his Parents; a Son; Gary Lee Ray (2006), and four Brothers; John T. Ray, Eugene Ray, Raymond "Buck" Ray and Donnie Ray.
Funeral Services were conducted on Friday, April 20, 2007 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home with Brian Fingerson officiating the service. Burial followed in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery in Ghent, KY.
Memorial Gifts were given to the Hospice of Northern Kentucky or the Carroll County Relay for Life Chapter or Carroll Youth Baseball Association.
The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
