Jim Hamilton, age 75 of Lexington and Carrollton, KY, passed away gracefully, January 21, 2023, at his home with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents James Lewis Hamilton and Carrie Sissie Elkin Hamilton of Lexington. Jim began his young life at Lafayette School of Lexington. He then entered the U.S. Air Force and National Guard, where he spent four years with two years of them in Japan serving his Country.
Jim returned home and attended the Kentucky State Police Academy, graduated in 1970 as a K.S.P. Trooper and later a Detective. Jim came to Carrollton in 1970 as a young Kentucky State Police Trooper and lived his entire career and life here with family and friends. He was incredibly proud to be a police officer and serve the community, state, and briefly the Governor of Kentucky with the utmost diligence and dignity. His heart was deeply invested in his profession and always accomplished his lifelong goal to be the best he could be.
After retiring from K.S.P., he was then employed at Dow Corning Corp. in Carrollton as a security officer with many other responsibilities including, E.M.T., Firefighter, Rescue Operations, etc.
Jim gathered many friends and retirement plus community service, through his work at the Dow Corning Corp. He was also employed at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy and Chief Deputy Sheriff until retirement. All the while owned a farm with wife Jeanne and Ross Hamilton for nearly 20 years.
Lastly, he was employed for A.U. at the Kentucky Ford Truck Plant as Master Security Officer and Supervisor for over nine years.
Jim also enjoyed twenty years of fishing on many beautiful lakes with his great friends, Ray Herman, Dennis Sharon and Ross Hamilton, Castle Parker Whitaker and many others.
He leaves behind many who loved him, many who liked him and many who respected him.
Jim will be missed by his wife; Jeanne Gracellis Hamilton of nearly 47 years, a son; Ross Parker Hamilton and wife; Jill Hamilton of Carrollton, a daughter; Leslee James Hamilton Whitaker and husband; Matthew Whitaker of Goshen, KY, seven grandchildren, grandson; Castle Parker Whitaker, grandson; Lex James Hamilton Whitaker, grandson; Wells Matthew James Whitaker, granddaughter; Jules Elizabeth Hamilton, granddaughter; Jentry Caroline Hamilton, granddaughter; Palmer Floren Grace Whitaker, granddaughter; Oakley Je’Anne Elaine Whitaker, and a nephew, Eric Lee Souers and family of Lexington, KY.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris White officiating the service. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the Valley of Rest Cemetery in La Grange, KY. The Kentucky State Police Honor Guard, the American Legion and the United States Air Force will present honors at the graveside.
