Joan Lee Sutherland Thomas, 70, of Carrollton, KY, died on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at her residence in Carrollton, KY.
She was born on December 30, 1946 in Carrollton, Carroll County, KY, the daughter of the late James Walter Sutherland and Bernice Lee Hicks Sutherland. She was a farm laborer for most of her life and was a member of the Whites Run Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Melvin (Susan) Thomas, Jr. of Carrollton, KY, two daughters, Joyce Lee (Rickey) Hearn of Carrollton, KY, and Tammy (Terry) Ayers of McKee, KY, three granddaughters that she raised as her daughters, Angela Banta of Carrollton, KY, Michelle Jordan (companion Friddie Figuerola) of Carrollton, KY, and Jennifer Schooler of Dry Ridge, KY, a brother, Jimmy Sutherland of Carrollton, KY, two sisters, Peggy Garrett of Carrollton, KY, and Joyce Fox of Carrollton, KY, six additional grandchildren, Spring Marie Thomas of Sulphur, KY, Jasmine Hope Summer Thomas of Hyden, KY, Melanie Elizabeth Autumn Thomas of Hyden, KY, Codey Ayers of Indiana, Ashley Ayers of McKee, KY, and Brandon Ayers of Louisville, KY, six great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Burial will be I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.
