John Edward Glauber, Jr., a beloved, retired Carrollton Merchant known for owning and operating Glauber Shoes and Sports, as well as being a dedicated farmer, passed away at his residence in Carroll, Carroll County, KY, on June 15, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 21, 1939, in Carrollton, KY to John Edward Glauber, Sr. and Inez Mudd Glauber. John is the fifth generation "John Glauber" to serve and operate businesses in Carrollton and Carroll County.
John led a fulfilling life marked by various roles and accomplishments. A lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, John was deeply involved in his faith community, having also attended Bellarmine College. He was a past chairman of the St. John Catholic Church Parish Council. He served as the Executive Officer - First Lieutenant of A Battery 138th Field Artillery of the Kentucky National Guard in Carrollton, KY.
Beyond his military and educational pursuits, John was an active member of various organizations such as the Carroll County Jaycees, Carroll County Republicans, and the Carrollton Main Street Program – showcasing his commitment to community service. He was also named Carroll County Conservation District - 2010 Master Conservationist.
Described as dedicated to God, his church, his family and his country, John leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Louise Powers Glauber whom he married in 1962 and their children: Susan (Scott) Martin of Ashland, KY; JoLynn (Jeff) Johnston of Napolean, KY; and John R. Glauber of Carrollton, KY and David (Lea) Glauber of Mt. Washington, KY. He is also survived by his brother Steve Glauber of Carrollton and twelve cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gayle Bell.
Outside of his professional and civic engagements, John found solace in hunting, fishing, and shooting sports - hobbies that brought him great joy throughout his life and he persued them with enthusiasm and vigor.
Services to honor and celebrate John's life will include a visitation at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton on June 19, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Interment will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers: John Harrison Glauber, John Logan Glauber, David Xavier Glauber, Landon Powers Johnston, Hayden Taylor Brown and Nicholas Larimore.
Memorial gifts may be made to: St. John Catholic Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
John E. Glauber, Jr. will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace knowing that his love and legacy live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his remarkable journey on this earth.
