John Paul Tilley, 90, of Carrollton, KY, died on Monday, March 14, 2022, at his home in Carrollton.
He was born on December 22, 1931, in Carrollton, Carroll County, KY, the son of the late Raymond Courtland Tilley and Doris Davidson Tilley. Throughout John’s long accomplished life, he had served in many positions, John had served in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, rising to the rank of Major. He had formerly served as Commander of the Carrollton Army National Guard Unit during the Vietnam War Era.
John had served the citizens of Carroll County in several elected positions over the many years of service to his community. He had served four years as the Carroll County Sheriff, eight years as Carroll County Judge Executive and sixteen years as the Carroll County Clerk, retiring in 1993. John had also served on the Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Hunter Tilley, of sixty-five years of marriage, three daughters, Lynette Tilley of Madison, IN, Marketta (Chris) Brock) of Carrollton, KY, and Michelle (Pat) Stewart of Carrollton, KY, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John Scott Tilley, a sister, Frances McAlister, and two brothers, Everette and Raymond Tilley.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.
