Our beloved Loretta Beckham-Wainscott passed away on May 5, 2023, at her home in Carrollton, KY. She was 83.
Loretta was born in Georgetown, Kentucky, on September 3, 1939, to the late Lottie and Henry Beckham. She was raised on Greenup Hill in Monterey, KY. After she graduated from Owen County High School in 1956, she married her husband of 46 years, active serviceman Bobby Gayle Wainscott, from Owenton, Kentucky.
She is survived by her daughter Vicki Georgiev, son-in-law Krasimir Georgiev, son Ricky Wainscott, daughter-in-law Susan Wainscott, son William Wainscott, daughter-in-law Ann (Boo) Wainscott, John Wainscott, daughter-in-law Cynthia Wainscott, and son James Wainscott, 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, James and David Beckham, and her sister, Edna Beckham.
She was predeceased by her husband, Air Force veteran Bobby Gayle Wainscott; her parents, Lottie and Henry Beckham; and her brother, Marine veteran Sidney Thomas Beckham.
Loretta was known to be a sassy, strong woman with heart and held many titles over the years, such as telephone operator, den mother, Sunday school teacher, county pool boss, and Kentucky Colonel, but her favorite title (and she liked to remind everyone) is Matriarch.
She retired after working 20 years at the Carroll County Middle School and Alternative School as an Administrative assistant. In the summer, she also ran the Carroll County swimming pool from the time it first opened until the day she retired. She was a natural with her kids at school and the county pool, and many of them addressed her as "mom" Many of the "kids" are now adults and have expressed their fond memories of her over the years.
