Martha Thompson

Martha Wood Beck Thompson, 93, of Hudson, NC, went to be with her Lord on October 20, 2011. She began her trip from her home surrounded by her loving children. She was born October 18, 1918 in the Needmore community near Raleigh, NC, to the late Basil Ernon Beck, Sr. and Addie Electa Wood Beck. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James R. Thompson; sister, Mary Beck Ward; brothers, Basil Ernon Beck, Jr., and James Kennon Beck. She is survived by her children Rev. James E. Thompson and wife Morgan; Martha Jo Thompson Suttles and husband Tom and Jennifer Dale Thompson Gragg and husband Richard; Grandchildren Chris Thompson and wife Jenny, Andy Thompson and wife Lois, Mark Thompson and wife Leah; David Kincaid and Matthew Crosby; Great grandchildren Cole, Noah, Sara, Madalyn, Meredith, Jake, Grace, Emma, and Caroline; preceded in death by great granddaughter Molly; Extended family grandchildren Thomas and wife Tonie, Jennifer and husband Ernest, Amy, Shane and wife Tracy; extended family great grandchildren Lorie, Thomas William, Megan, Morgan, Mason, Taylor, Tyler, Tray and Tristan and many loving in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Martha is a graduate of Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC, and the Women's Missionary Training School, Louisville, KY. She assisted in her husband's ministry for 45 years and served as Educational Director of First Baptist Church of Auburndale, FL, First Baptist Church of Vero Beach, FL, and Ortega Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL. She held various leadership and teaching positions at all age levels in the Sunday School and Women's Missionary Organizations. She faithfully taught Sunday School for 76 years. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Hudson, NC.
A graveside service and interment were on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Dallasburg Masonic Cemetery, in Wheatley, KY.
