Marvin Stewart

d. February 17, 2014

STEWART, Marvin Ray,

87, of Prospect, went home to be with his Lord, Monday, February 17, 2014.

He was the son of Raymond and Edith Stewart and was raised in Williamstown, Kentucky. He served in the Air Force during WW II, and later earned a B.S. Degree from The Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and a M.A. Degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Marvin was the Owen County School System's first music teacher. He started the High School Band and taught music in all 22 of the County's elementary schools. He later served as the Band Director for the Galitan County schools, and then as Principal at two Carroll County elementary schools. He is fondly remembered for the music programs that enriched the lives of tens of thousands of students.

In 1964, Marvin started Stewart Tours. For the next 44 years he ran and provided tours all over Kentucky, the U.S. and the world. He often combined his love of music with his love of travel, providing to his travel companions impromptu piano concerts. He is thought to have played the piano in every State in the U.S and on every Continent in the world (except Antarctica).

Marvin trusted in Jesus Christ for his salvation as a teenager. He was a life-long Baptist, served as organist in four churches, and frequently volunteered his musical abilities to play at nursing homes and charitable events. He was a member of Westport Road Baptist Church and is now a resident of heaven. His body he donated to the U of L Medical School. He loved people. He loved to tell jokes. He loved to entertain with stories and music. In his own words, "I've had a great life."

Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Julia Mae Raisor Stewart; four daughters: Laura Sue Duvall (Larry) - Sarasota, FL, Kathy Keith (Mike) - Owenton, KY, Beth Stewart (Dave Smith) - Owenton, KY and Lynn Vaught (Ray) - Carrollton, KY; two step-children: Greg Conway (Melodie) - Prospect, KY and Karen McCarty - Louisville, KY; sister: Betty Sue Adkins (Larry); 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
