Mary Lee (Maples) Montgomery, 79, of Carrollton, KY, died on Tuesday evening, September 3, 2013 at the Green Valley Health & Rehab. Center in Carrollton. She was born on April 18, 1934 in Ashland, Boyd County, KY, the daughter of the late Edith and Max Jarvis After graduating from Ashland High School in Ashland, KY, she attended nurses training at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1955. She is survived by two daughters, Linda A. (Ed) Zinn of Kunming, China and Diana L. (Donnie) Smith of Bedford, KY, a son, James W. (Sandy) Maples, Jr., of Florence, IN. She is survived by two younger sisters, Shirley Ann (Keith) Bender of Missouri and Linda Sue (Paul) Hower of California. In addition to her children and sisters, she is also survived by ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mary Lee worked at the Carroll County Health Department from 1965 to her retirement in 1989. She was known to all the children as "Nurse Maples" and she would even make some children faint when she paid visits to the local schools. She has given multiple generations of children their shots and physicals over her years as a public health nurse. She was married to James E. Montgomery on September 17, 1983 and remained happily married for 25 years till his death on October 2008. The years after her retirement from the Health Department were spent with her children and grandchildren, extended family and friends. She lived at an assisted living apartment for several years then at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center due to an extended illness of Alzheimer's Disease. Her final remaning years were spent at Green Valley where she was cared for by her former co-workers. Since being diagnosed in 2000 with Alzheimer's she has been lovingly supported and cared for by her family and friends. She loved Angels and their message. She was a member of the Dean Memorial United Methodist Church in Worthville, KY, where she played piano for years and also the Family Worship Center in Carrollton, where she volunteered as a door greeter and helped in the office. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Wade officiating the service. Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. t0 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton. Expressions of Sympathy may be made to the Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio in her memory in care of the funeral home.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. t0 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home .

I.O.O.F. Cemetery - Carrollton, KY.
