Mary Smith

Mary Kathryn Halmess Smith, age 86, of Carrollton, KY, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. She was born in Carrollton, Carroll County, KY on March 3, 1928 to John H. and Lena Mylor Halmess who preceded her in death. Mary Kathryn was a devout member of St. John Catholic Church in Carrollton, KY and she was a retired registered nurse having begun her career at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital the very day it opened. She was active in the Red Hat Society, the Book Club at Carroll County Public Library, a dedicated and steadfast volunteer for the St. John Food Pantry and a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Survivors include; four daughters - Paula (Charlie) Norris of Lexington, KY, Claudia (Arthur Zook) Way of Carrollton, KY, Tootie (Berry) Stewart of Indianapolis, IN and Kathy (Doug) Elam of Lexington, KY, three sons - Dr. John M. (Ellen) Smith of Ft. Mitchell, KY, Bob (Robin) Smith of Carrollton, KY and Pat (Donya) Smith of Richmond, KY, 12 grandchildren and 5 great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Smith, two brothers - John B. Halmess and Robert M. Halmess.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 a.m. - Saturday - July 26, 2014 at St. John Catholic Church. Visitation was held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church with the Rosary at 7:45 p.m. Interment was in the St. John Catholic Church Cemetery.
