Michael Eugene “Mike” “Hoop” Hoopengarnar, age 68, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. Hoop was born in Madison, Jefferson County, IN on September 19, 1952 the son of James Smitha and Mary Virginia Meeks Barr. He was of the Baptist faith and was retired after 20 years of service with the Carroll County Road Department. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, enjoyed playing poker, hunting and fishing and most of all, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; Ruthie Hoopengarnar, whom he married in the Carrollton Wesleyan Church on November 10, 1972, a daughter; Kelly (Dusty) Vogel of Bedford, KY, a son; Michael Eugene (Chandra) Hoopengarnar, Jr. of Carrollton, KY, two sisters; Sue Courtney of Ghent, KY and Donna (Pat) Dennis of Warsaw, KY, five grandchildren; Micha Hoopengarnar, Megan Hoopengarnar, Calli Hoopengarnar, Jace Vogel and Harper Vogel, and five great grandchildren, Maylee Clay, Kyler Clay, Mavree Clay, Tyson Jones and Tanner Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Sherry Hoopengarner and Edith Smitha Gordon and four brothers; Terry Hoopengarnar, Jerry Hoopengarnar, Timmy Hoopengarnar, James “Hook” Smitha.
Due to Gov. Andy Beshear’s Covid19 mandates, Social Distancing will be observed and all visitors must wear a mask covering their nose and mouth.
