Nina Jane Stewart, 87, of Lexington, KY, formerly of Worthville, KY, died Monday, December 31, 2018 at Dover Manor in Georgetown, KY.
She was born on June 7, 1931 in Worthville, Carroll County, KY, the daughter of the late Elliott Owen Hunt and Leo Mae (Chilton) Hunt. She had retired in May of 1989 from the Carroll County Board of Education having taught at English and the Ninth Street Elementary School and had also served as a reading specialist at Kathryn Winn Primary School. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Georgetown College and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Louisville.
She was a member of the Worthville Baptist Church were she had been a Sunday School Teacher, participated in the church choir, vacation bible school, W.M.U. and was active on most of the church committees. Nina was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing, and growing flowers and vegetables in her garden.
She is survived by two daughters, Melinda Stewart Kemper of Lexington, KY and Jenny Stewart (Larry) Dwyer of Verona, KY, a son, Roy Thomas (Alecia) Stewart of Georgetown, KY, two sisters, Reba Carol Brock of Frankfort, KY, and Marcella (David) Tomlinson of Union City, TN, and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin Clifford Stewart on April 11, 2003, a son, Nathan Ray Stewart on July 23, 2010 and an infant sister.
