She was born May 15, 1912 to the late Henry W. and Harriett Taylor Schirmer near Ghent, Kentucky. She was United in marriage on September 1, 1934 at Covington, Kentucky to Clifford I. Searcy. To this union arrived one daughter and two sons to bless their home. Mrs. Searcy graduated from Carrollton High School in 1929. She attended Eastern Kentucky State Teachers' College and taught school for three years at Easterday, Kentucky. She and her husband owned and operated a family farm near Ghent, Kentucky. As a farm wife and mother she was an avid gardener. During World War II., she received a certificate from the Kentucky extension department for producing and preserving seventy-five percent of the family food supply. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, and needlecrafts. Mrs. Searcy was a faithful member of the Whites' Run Christian Church in Kentucky for many years. She was a Sunday School Teacher, soloist, for special occasions including funerals and weddings as well as holding leadership positions of the ladies organizations.
She was a director of Happy Hills Christian Service Camp in Kentucky. She became a member of the North Madison Christian Church in 1994. In addition to the responsibilities of being a farm wife and mother of three, she volunteered many hours of service to agricultural organizations such as the 4-H Council, The Carroll County Fair Board and Fair, and the Southern States Farm and Home Advisory Committee for four years. She was a member of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation and the Carroll County Farm Bureau for 35 years.
She served as a district chairwoman for six years and state chairwoman of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Women in 1957, 1958, and 1959. This office required traveling throughout the state for meetings and workshops, as well as representing Kentucky at the American Farm Bureau National Convention as a voting delegate. In 1967, she easy the first place winner in the state review for a wool garment. Mrs. Searcy was honored for her contribution to KFBF and by her community receiving the 1971 distinguished service award, the first women to be selected for this award.
She is survived by one daughter, Rita Lynn Stout (Michael) of Madison, Indiana; two sons, Douglas Perry Searcy (Carol) of Lexington, Kentucky and William Ray Searcy (Cynthia) of Cumming, Georgia; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one niece, Peggy Downed of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; and several grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1981, four sisters: Marguerite Riley, Henrietta Raney, Opal Riley, and Juanita Chambers; and one nephew, Dr. H. Schirmer Riley.
Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Robbie King at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery in Ghent, KY. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. , Friday, October 21, 2011 at the funeral home and from Noon-2:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of donations to the North Madison Christian Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
