Randall Tharp

Former Carrollton Fire Chief, Randall L. "Randy" Tharp, age 56, passed away peacefully, Monday morning, December 30, 2013 at his residence in Carrollton, KY.

He was born on July 31, 1957 in La Grange, Oldham County, KY, the son of the late Donald William Tharp and Marcia H. (Hawkins) Tharp. He was a 1975 graduate of Carroll County High School. He had served in Fire Service from 1978-2011, he retired in 2011 from the City of Carrollton, where he had served as the Fire Chief and 911 Supervisor for Carroll County. He had served on the Westside Volunteer Fire Department in Carrollton, retiring from that department when he took over as Fire Chief for the City of Carrollton. He had served on the Carroll County 911 Board from 1994-2011. He had previously worked for Coca-Cola and A & W Distribution Company in Carrollton. He had served in the Army National Guard.

In his spare time, he enjoyed Farming, Fishing and Hunting. He was a very talented woodworking craftsman.

He is survived by his wife, Grace A. (Corley) Tharp, to whom he married on October 8, 1977, his daughter, Melissa A. Hann and her husband, Jeremy , of Carrollton, KY, his son, Eric R. Tharp of Carrollton, KY, his father and mother in-law, David and Mary Jo Corley of Carrollton, KY, his two grandchildren, Haley & Ryan Tharp of Carrollton. He is survived by his two cherished dogs, Killer and Judy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Brenda L. Moore, and his brother, Phillip W. Tharp.

Funeral Services were on Thursday, January 2, 2014 with the Rev. Miles Miller officiating the service at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the WHAS Crusade for Children in care of the funeral home.

Visitation

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.

Funeral

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. With the Rev. Miles Miller officiating the service at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home.
