Roy Wayne Calvert, 80, of Carrollton, KY, died on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY.
He was born in Bedford, Trimble County, KY, the son of the late Lawrence Calvert and Elizabeth Skirvin. He had served his country honorably, starting his career in the United States Air Force as a Air Force Policeman and later went on to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and finally retired from the Army National Guard in Carrollton. He received many awards and commendations for his service including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Rifle Medal, Army National Defense Medal, Army Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Rifle Badge and a Bronze Star Medal. After his service in the Military, he went to work for over 41 years with the Kroger Grocery Company in Carrollton, having retired as the Dairy Department Manager. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton and the American Legion Post #41 in Carrollton. In his spare time a loved to play the game Yahtzee and was very competitive at it.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth G. Calvert of Carrollton, KY, a son, Chris (Barbara) Calvert of Nicholasville, KY, a step-son, Phillip (Tammy) Gilbert of Elkton, MD, a step-daughter, Cheryl Gilbert of Carrollton, KY, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother, Chester Lee Calvert and a nephew, Jimmy Calvert.
The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
