Ruby Skirvin

April 12, 1914 — October 19, 2015

Ruby L. Skirvin, 101, of Carrollton, KY, passed peacefully with her family by her side on Monday afternoon, October 19, 2015 at Baptist Health in La Grange, KY.

She was born on April 12, 1914 in Bedford, Trimble County, KY, the daughter of the late Dora Welch and Molly McEndra Welch. She had worked at the former Butler Furniture Factory, formerly Eisen Brothers Furniture in Carrollton for 45 years in the Cushion Department. She had also worked at the former Vevay Shoe Factory. Her biggest and favorite job was raising her six children and constantly telling them to wash your hands up until her death.

She enjoyed watching Monday night wrestling with John Cena, being her favorite. She could name all of the wrestlers and some of their family. She loved to dance and would dance with her friend Sandy Horine and others on the weekends. She enjoyed telling stories of her childhood living on Millers Branch in Trimble County. One story was when she was 12 years old and would walk to a one room school house down a dark dirt road. She said it was very dark but she would get a nickel a week to build a piping hot fire in the pot belly stove and have the room warm when the other children got there. She would follow up by saying "I don't think I would do that now because it was cold and very dark and I would be scared today." She loved going to school and said the teachers back in those days made you get your lessons done or you wouldn't go home until you did.

Ruby was baptized at the age of 21 with her sister, Katherine at the Mt. Herman Baptist Church in Trimble County. The last few years she has been attending Family Worship Center in Carrollton where she enjoyed listening to Bro. Pat's messages.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Alice (Alvin) Sullivan of Bedford, KY, her two son's, Charles (Evelyn) Skirvin of Madison, IN, and Carroll (Donna) Skirvin of Lancaster, KY, sixteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and fourteen great - great grandchildren also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Omer "Red" Skirvin, her companion, Elmer "Buck" Meadows, a daughter, Mary K. Smith, two sons, Kenneth D. Skirvin and Orval L. Skirvin, two sisters, Della Kendall and Katherine Callis and four brothers, Ernest Welch, Sr., Forest Welch, Carroll Welch and Norval Welch.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to go the Family Worship Center Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
