Sam Earle

Sam L. Earle, 87, of Ghent, KY., died on Thursday evening, January 7, 2010 at his residence in Ghent.

He was born on April 27, 1922 in Ghent, Carroll County, KY., the son of the late Clarence Walton Earle and Alma Breeden Earle. Sam was a retired construction worker for Harris Brothers. He served his country as a U.S. Marine in World War II. He served on the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department for 43 total years from January 1947 to January 1973 and from January 1973 to March 1990 he served as chief of the Ghent Fire Protection District. He also formerly served on the Ghent Fire District Board.

Survivors include his wife; Martha Schirmer Earle, a daughter; Cheryl Lynn West of Ellettsville, IN., and a son; David Lee Earle of Columbus, IN., four sisters; Mamie Estelle Walls of Lawrenceburg, IN., Edna Delores Kring of Jeffersonville, IN., Sandra Horine of Carrollton, KY., and Martha Hunter of Louisville, KY., three brothers; Roger Earle of Carrollton, KY., Freddie Earls of Carrollton, KY., Riley N. Earle of Carrollton, KY., along with one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sisters; Christine Earle and Mary Elizabeth Smith a brothers; Walton E. Earle and Raymond Eugene Earle.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. , Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M., Monday, January 11, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery.

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Gifts may be given to the Ghent Fire Protection District for the Sam Earle Fire Station in Ghent.
