Sandra Sue Weaver May

January 3, 1942-February 8, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Sandy May announces her passing. She died peacefully in the care of her adoring family at the home of her daughter in Bedford KY. Meme, as she was known to her family, was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She was confident in her relationship with Christ and the joyous reunion she would have in heaven.

Sandy was born on January 3, 1942 in Union, KY to Sue Bristow and Harold Weaver, one of six children who were raised to know the value of hard work and a strong family. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; Bill, Gene, Norman ‘Buddy’ and John; infant daughter, Maria Lynn May and the love of her life and husband, Robert May.

She graduated from Boone County High school in 1959 where she was active in the Glee Club. She went on to Western Kentucky State College where she was member of Beta Omega Chi. She graduated in 1964 with a degree in Education. In 1980, she earned a Master’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. While student teaching in Bradenburg, she met and fell in love with Robert May. They married in August of 1964 and were married for 54 years before his death in 2019.

Bob and Sandy went on to have many adventures as their teaching careers led them to various education positions across the state. They eventually settled in Carrollton KY to raise their family.

Beyond her career in education, Sandy was an Elder and President of the congregation at Carrollton Christian Church, a Carrollton City Council member, Chairman of the Health Board for Three Rivers Health Department and a faithful member of the Friday Night Supper Club.

At her retirement, she was the Principal of Kathryn Winn Elementary where she served the Carrollton community and its children for many years. Retirement didn’t suit her and she continued work as a consultant with the Kentucky Department of Education and mentor for the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program.

Sandy was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. She rarely missed watching a basketball game and was a big part of the football tailgate scene where she was a founding member of ‘The Best Damn Tailgate’.

Meme found the most joy from her children and grandchildren. She was a doting matriarch and never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud she was of all of their accomplishments and successes.

She is survived by her children, Robert Bryan May (Cathy) of Lexington, KY and Jenna May Stevens (Robert) of Bedford KY. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Dr Abigail May of Lexington; Jackson May of Cincinnati, Ohio; Benjamin Stevens of Bedford and Katherine Stevens of Bedford. She is also survived by her precious little sister Sally Carpenter of Covington and dear sister-in-law Charlotte Weaver as well as several beloved nieces and nephews who all knew her as their Suesue.

Visitation will take place from 11:00-1:00 on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Carrollton Christian Church, 310 5th St. Carrollton KY. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 with Pastor Justin Rhorer officiating. A Celebration of Sandy’s life will take place at 3:00 at the Picker House located in the Fairfield Inn & Suites, 108 St. Michaels Ave Madison, IN. A burial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Make a Wish Foundation chapter of Ohio Kentucky Indiana, 1230 Liberty Bank Lane, Suite 300, Louisville, KY 40222 or the Carrollton Christian Church in Carrollton KY.
