Sue Mills Beverly

Sue Mills Beverly, was born on March 31, 1940, in Carroll County, Kentucky, where she lived the early years of her life. Sue peacefully departed this world on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.

Sue devoted many years to her career, operating Mills Department Store in Madison, Indiana, and Suzannas Apparel in Carrollton. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to her customers were integral to the local retail landscape, earning her the admiration and respect of many in the community.

Her life was rich with joy and fulfillment found in various pursuits. Sue cherished her hobbies, which included quilting, reading—especially her Bible—traveling, writing, and being an enthusiastic fan of Elvis Presley. Above all, her family and church, Hopewell Community Church held a special place in her heart, reflecting her deep-rooted values of love and faith.

Sue is survived by her four children: daughters, Tammy Oakley of Bedford, Kentucky, and Kathy (Jeff) Rowlett of Milton, Kentucky; and sons, Robert Lewis Beverly of Bedford, Kentucky, and Billy (Kim) Beverly of Madison, Indiana, her sister-in-law, Janice (Charlie) Spencer of Carrollton, KY. She also leaves behind a vibrant legacy of seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Garrett and Georgie Mills Garrett, her husband, Robert Beverly, her son-in-law, Donnie Oakley, and her siblings, Nancy Harmon, Evelyn Stewart, Billy Garrett, and Julian Garrett. Their memories now join her in spirit, as she is remembered for her kindness, warmth, and love.

A visitation to honor Sue's life will take place on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave, Carrollton, KY 41008. This will be followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, allowing family and friends the opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate her life.  Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Hopewell Community Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.

Sue Mills Beverly will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved her.
