Velma Bickers

Velma Irene Bickers, affectionally known as Buba to her family and friends, died in Leland, NC on September 13, 2014. She was born in Carroll County, Kentucky to Jesse and Lucy Adams. Velma was married to JB Bickers and had one son Steven Wayne Bickers. Velma was proud to be a farmer's wife and worked side by side with her husband and family on Lock Road. She also worked at Teledyne Wirz for 20 years until failing health forced her retirement in 1985. Velma moved in 2007 from her home in Carrollton, KY to Durham, NC to be closer to her son and his family and later moved to Leland, NC.

Her son Steve and his wife Lynne of Leland, NC, survive Velma. Survivors also include her three precious grandchildren Cristi (Anthony) Nunn and Chad (Wendi) Bickers of Durham, NC and Shane (fiancé© Lauren) Easter of Leland, NC and six great-grandchildren Patrick and Zach Nunn, Casie, Carlie, and Chloe Bickers all of Durham, NC and Gray Easter of Leland, NC. She is leaving behind her favorite canine companions Callie and Cadie. One sister Beverly Malin of Campbellsburg, Ky and several nieces and nephews, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, granddaughter (Lisa Ann), brother and his wife Earl and Martha Adams and brother-in-law Bobby Malin.

A funeral service was held at Grey Stone Church in Durham, NC on Tuesday, September 16 at 5:00PM with Worship Pastor Robert Bresch officiating. A graveside service and burial was held in Carrollton, Ky at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery on Friday, September 19 at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. Chris White officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church 401 Highland Ave, Carrollton, Ky 41008 or to Grey Stone Church Music Ministry 2601 Hillsborough Road, Durham, NC 27705. The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral Service, Inc., in Durham, N.C. The Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home of Carrollton, KY has been entrusted with local arrangements.

Visitation

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Gray Stone Church.

A funeral service will be held at Grey Stone Church in Durham, NC on Tuesday, September 16 at 5:00PM with Worship Pastor Robert Bresch officiating.

Interment

A graveside service and burial will be held in Carrollton, Ky at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery on Friday, September 19 at 11:00AM with Dr. Chris White officiating.
