Wade Roberts Gagel, known affectionately as the "Silver Fox," took his last flight on Monday, May 20, 2024, in Carrollton, Kentucky. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a passionate life that touched all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born on February 8, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky, Wade was a proud alumnus of Western Kentucky University, where he honed his skills and laid the foundation a successful career ahead. Wade's professional journey saw him excel in various roles - from owning Becker's Florist in Louisville to working as a Gate Agent at Delta Airlines. His dedication and warmth earned him the endearing moniker of the "Silver Fox" among colleagues and friends at Delta Airlines. He had also worked as a golf attendant at General Butler State Park and Resort in Carrollton.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Wade found joy in simple pleasures. An avid golfer, his love for the sport transcended mere hobby; it was a part of his essence. He also had a creative side, indulging in artwork that reflected his imaginative spirit. Wade's curiosity knew no bounds as he immersed himself in books and cherished every moment spent riding convertibles or basking in the beauty of the outdoors and he loved listening to "Elvis" music.
Wade was preceded in death by his father Clarence "Duck" Gagel and his loving mother figure Pauline Gagel. While Wade may have bid farewell to this world, he is survived by his devoted wife Mary Ann Rais Gagel of Carrollton, Kentucky. His memory will be cherished by his siblings, Warren (Michelle) Kalkhof Donna (Bill) Sewell Debbie (Dennis) Taylor, Peggy (Larry) Gillis, and Bonnie Eisler.
To honor and celebrate Wade's remarkable life, Homecoming Services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, with visitation beginning after noon on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Carroll County Animal Shelter in the care of the funeral home.
