William Burns

July 6, 1919 — April 13, 2005

William Kirtley Burns, 85, of Sanders, KY., died on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the Carroll County Hospital.

He was born in Sanders, Carroll County, KY., the son of the late Leonard H. and Ruth Bruce Burns. He was a retired farmer and former music leader at Sanders Baptist Church. He was a member of Sanders Baptist Church for many years. William was married to Doris Kimball Burns for over 62 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. in the 1st Cavalry Division in the Pacific Campaign. Prior to being sent to the Pacific, he was a trooper in one of the last mounted horse cavalry units. He loved music, playing the trumpet, piano, guitar and drums. He played with several local bands.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter; Cindy Burns of Sanders, KY., a son; Dave Burns of Houston, TX., a brother; Leonard Newt Burns and his wife Louise of Ghent, KY., three grandchildren; Kyle Burns and his wife Tsion Manker of Louisville, KY., Kelsey Hostetler of Clarksville, IN., and Kirtley Hostetler of Sanders, KY., several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Burns, Kirtley Hostetler, Dave Burns, Jose Hernandez, Dale New and David Crawford.

The Rev. Lucas Clabough will conduct the funeral service on friday at the funeral home chapel.
