William Harold Clifton

Mr. Clifton was born in Pleasureville, KY. on November 30, 1926. He moved to Carroll County in 1943. He was drafted into the U.S. Army out of high school in March 1945. He finished high school after returning home from the service, to the rank of Sgt. Major. He spent most of his service time in the South Pacific and Japan. He was united in marriage to Marguerite Beatrice Perkins on July 12, 1945.
Mr. Clifton attended the Cove Hill Baptist Church for 38 years, having served as a Deacon for 34 years, among other positions. He served in the Gideon's International for 40 years, placing Bibles around the world in 194 countries.
Mr. Clifton was active in community work. He served on the Carroll County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors for 5 years. He was President of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for 4 years and was voted "Outstanding Citizen of the Year" in 1973. For 10 years, Mr. Clifton served on the Board of Directors with the Northern Kentucky Comprehensive Care. He served on the Carroll County Fiscal Court as Magistrate of District #1 for one year. Mr. Clifton worked in three Kentucky Governor campaigns for Carroll County. He was also involved in the local Cancer Chapter for a time. Mr. Clifton was also a member of the American Legion and the Carrollton Lions Club.
Mr. Clifton worked at WVCM radio station as a DJ and broadcaster after earning his official F.C.C. license to operate the station.
He worked for the Standard Oil Company for 40 years, and Harper Oil for many years.
He is preceded in death by a wife, Marguerite Beatrice Perkins, who he was married to for 50 wonderful years; his parents Charles and Minnie Yates Clifton; two brothers, Omer and Cecil Clifton; and a sister, Ava Clifton.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Clem Clifton, of six years; one daughter, Carolyn Clifton Meadows, Carrollton, KY.; two grandchildren, Debby and Andy Meadows; five great grandchildren, Jacob Meadows, Kayla Meadows, Carmen Mitchell, Christian Mitchell, and Chloe Coombs, all of Carrollton, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation Services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 5:00p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at the Family Worship Center in Carrollton, KY. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Family Worship Center in Carrollton, KY. Burial will take place at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, KY.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Gideon's International in care of the funeral home.
Visitation Services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 5:00p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at the Family Worship Center in Carrollton, KY.
Funeral Service will be on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Family Worship Center
Burial will take place at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, KY.
