William Everett “Bill” Long, 69, of Carroll County, KY, passed away on May 8, 2020 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, KY.
He was born on May 18, 1950 in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, the son of the late Charles Franklin “Frank” Long and Lucille Estelle Ashby Long. He was proud to say he grew up on a farm and was a “Locust Squirrel”. In 1970 he started a career in Trucking Cross Country where he owned and operated Long Trucking and Leasing. He leased to Parkhill/Tri State until 1984 and went out on his own with Long Trucking until 1999. From 1999 to 2012 he worked for International Union of Operating Engineers Local #181 and retired in 2012 due to his health.
“Bill” loved his family, friends and people. He had an infectious laugh and smile. He was a person of what you see is what you get! He lived his life to the fullest with no regrets.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Denise Lynn Raymer Long, three son’s; Wyatt Everett (Ashley) Long, Hyatt Dee Long (fiancé’ Whitney Wingham), and Benjamin Lynn Long, grandsons; Wayson Everett Long, Everson Joseph Lavon Long and Benson William Long, his sister; Alice Rae Long Burke, his nephew; Carroll Wayne “Bimp” (Sheila) McAlister, brother in-laws; Eddie Burke, Dwight Dee Raymer, sister in-laws; Angela Gwen Baxter and Vickie Lavon Yeary, mother in-law; Mary Alice Raymer, nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1986 and his mother in 2001, his sister; Norma Rosalyn Long McAlister in 1980, his father in-law; Dee Lavon Raymer in 2017, his brother in-law; Wayne “Ike” McAlister in 2006 and Dennis Edward Yeary in 2019, and two nephews; David Burke in 1994 and Shawn McAlister in 1997.
